A new year brings new challenges for people of all ages and life styles. A great way to bring in the New Year is to create resolutions that are not only achievable, but are fun as well.

For moms, moms to be, and those women looking to become pregnant, an excellent New Years resolution is to maintain a healthy weight and manage a healthy lifestyle. Creating a goal such as this will pave the way for not only those moms, but also for their children, even after their birth.

Studies show that overweight and obese mothers tend to deliver overweight babies. One such study comes from researchers at the University of Auckland in New Zealand who acknowledge the fact that pregnant women who exercise regularly deliver healthier babies who go on to living healthy lives. This can affect both women starting their pregnancy overweight and those that gain too much weight during pregnancy but are otherwise in a normal weight range. Not only do these women put themselves at risk of diabetes, they also put their child at risk of a diabetic and obese life. When these children reach adulthood, they increase their chance of staying obese and delivering overweight babies themselves.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle while pregnant and even before becoming pregnant has many benefits for both the mom and her baby. Performing certain stretching exercises daily and low or non-impact aerobic activity just three times a week can lead to enhanced circulation & flexibility, increased energy, strength, and relaxation, as well as improved calcium absorption. Pilates has also been shown to improve posture and reduce the aches and pains a mother experiences during pregnancy. These are just some of the many benefits that come along with staying fit while pregnant, aside from a better physical appearance and the minimization of stretch marks.

Just as there are benefits during pregnancy, there are also many benefits that
come with delivery of the baby. Healthy and fit mothers will experience a shorter full-term pregnancy, less incidence of troubled labor with shorter time spent laboring, lower incidence of cesarean section, babies born of healthy weight, and less signs of fetal distress during delivery.

Aside from the many exercises a mother can do to promote health for her and her baby, there are also many exercises that can work out her pelvic floor as well which will keep the muscles from becoming over-stretched and weak. Kegel exercises for example, allow a woman to build strength and endurance in her pelvic region which will help improve, regain, or maintain bladder and bowel control. Pelvic tilts are also a great way to reduce back pain and tone the muscles and ligaments that support the internal organs. Pelvic tilts can be performed in many positions depending on the mothers preference. These two exercises, when performed regularly, will support the pelvic floor of a mothers body.

There are many ways to stay fit while pregnant, but the best choice are exercises in the water because they not only put less strain on the mom and her baby, but being in the water requires the mom to only support fifty percent of her body weight. Also, exercising in the water reduces the risk of stress related injuries and is soothing on the mothers joints and muscles. Water exercises are completely safe because they are performed in waist or chest high water and if performed with an expert, are formed around the needs and capabilities of each individual mom and mom to be. Because it is important to remain relaxed and not overworked during pregnancy, experts recommend just thirty minutes of moderate intensity exercise a day for prenatal women. While exercising, it is also important to remember to stay hydrated and always perform warm up and cool down exercises during each work out session. The New Year has only just begun, but it is never too soon to begin a workout routine.

Women who are looking to live a healthy life style while pregnant, or even before or after having their baby are encouraged to seek professional assistance in designing the perfect exercises that are specific to their needs and abilities. Now is the perfect time to begin a healthy life for moms everywhere. After all, a healthy mom creates a healthy child, and a healthy child is a happy child.

Commonly question about Fitness New Year, New Mom

Question :

I signed up for a trial last year with Goodlife fitness gym, am I still a member?

My mom got me some vouchers for a month at good life fitness but only new members are allowed to use them. I remember signing up for a 3 visit trial there last year and they input my information in their computer. would i still be able to use these vouchers since I only signed up for a trial back then?
Answer :
i suggest you call your neighborhood National health service business not to mention meet with among the list of Health and wellbeing Experts. They will ensure that you get own recommendations on dieting and exercise often, and may even toss in a lot of no charge consultations inside a workout room. They can indeed be capable to advice about the goal too since they own primary one way links to many other National health service business units. They will also be able to see whenever you ll find classes with the theme.
Question :

Sleep for new moms and you energy level.how do you manage?

I am just curious how much sleep all those new moms get everyday ?My lo is 7 months and most of the ime he sleeps through the night but I can t sleep more than 1.5-2 hours at a stretch and wake up to check on her.We are co sharing the room as I can t leave him a separate room.I try to sleep very cautiously as my slightest movement or turning over makes weird noise on matress and he moves and squims in his sleep.I am afraid he would wake up. He is growing out of his pack and play now.I have no crib yet. Please share your sleeping arrangements as my old matress is not firm enough for co sleeping and we have no crib.what could be asafer option and after 1 year or so what kinna bed do you use for babies.I am curious to know other moms schedule, sleep hours and physical fitness level and sleeping arrangements of babies.I sill feel terribly tired and suffering from bad body ache .do you all recover completely after csection and baby care exhaustion after 7 months or so?thanks
Answer :
I know it is hard, but you are going to have to try to relax and get some sleep!!! I know it is hard not to worry about them, believe me! I lost my first son, so I was worried to death over every little thing with Noah, but you are only hurting yourself by worrying so much!

I think that if he is sleeping through the night you may want to try moving him to his own room and get a video monitor so you can see him if you need to to make yourself feel better about it. But it sounds like you are both losing sleep by staying in the same room.

I personally co-sleep with my son because it is what gets us BOTH the most sleep. But is sounds like maybe the opposite would would help you guys get more sleep since you are both waking each other up.

I think if you are still hurting from your C-section after 7 months you need to talk to your doctor because this is NOT normal. I stopped hurting about 1 week after my c-section.... so 7 months is a LONG time.
Question :

Can anyone suggest some aerobic, dance-style fitness DVDs?

Not Zumba! I know it s probably the best one all of you can suggest, but I d rather buy one that won t cost me 80 bucks :) I m a 21 years old, married, new mom and I ve lost all the baby weight already...I m just trying to lose a little more and tone up a lot. I d rather a dance-style workout because the regular aerobic workout dvds are just way too boring for me, I ll end up quitting after a week or two :)
Answer :
I really like the Carmen Electra series. The first in the series is Aerobic Strip Tease! It s not a dirty tape at all, but it is really fun and makes it seem as though you are just dancing rather than working out. Plus, I have purchased a few at Wal Mart for around 9 dollars each!
